Puffco Pivot vs Focus V Carta Sport in Canada: Pocket Vape or Full E-Rig?

The Puffco Pivot is the cheapest way into Puffco at $169.99 CAD. The Focus V Carta Sport is the cheapest full e-rig Focus V makes at $325 CAD.

They are the entry point to each brand, and people cross-shop them constantly. But they are not the same kind of device at all, and the price gap is not really the story. Here is what you are actually choosing between.

The core difference: water or no water

The Carta Sport is a water-filtered e-rig. Vapour passes through water in a glass top before it reaches you, which cools it and takes the edge off. It sits on a table.

The Pivot is a dry pocket vaporizer. No water, no glass bubbler out of the box. It is small enough to disappear into a jacket pocket, and it takes about two seconds to put away.

That is the whole decision in one line: do you want the smoothest possible hit, or do you want something you can carry every day? Almost everything else follows from that.

Puffco Pivot: what you get for $169.99

The Pivot punches well above its price. It uses a 3D ceramic chamber with real-time temperature control — the same core technology as Puffco's expensive devices, scaled down.

Four heat presets, cycled with one button, shown by colour:

  • Blue — 500°F
  • Green — 520°F
  • Red — 540°F
  • White — 585°F

No app, no Bluetooth. The pivoting mouthpiece is the design signature — it swivels so you can find a comfortable angle, and it does a good job of cutting down splashback into the airpath.

Its real strengths are the ones that do not show up on a spec sheet: almost nothing to break, no exposed glass to crack in a bag, and a chamber that comes out easily for cleaning. For a first concentrate device, that matters more than performance numbers. Most people who bounce off dabbing do it because their first device was fiddly, not because it was underpowered.

Its real weakness is heat soak. Push the Pivot through back-to-back sessions and it gets warm, and delicate concentrates like diamonds start tasting cooked. It is built for a session or two, not an evening.

Focus V Carta Sport: what the extra $155 buys

Water filtration is the headline, and it is a bigger difference than most first-time buyers expect. Big dabs off a dry pocket device are harsh. The same dab through water is smooth enough that you stop thinking about it.

Beyond that:

  • Intelli-Core atomizer — a much larger ceramic bowl that heats both the walls and the bottom plate, handling 0.1g–0.3g loads comfortably. The Pivot's chamber is a fraction of that size.
  • 2700mAh battery, up to 50 sessions. The Pivot lands closer to 15. This is the single widest gap between the two devices.
  • Five presets from 480°F to 565°F, plus Bluetooth app control for exact temperatures, session length, and saved profiles.
  • Removable CARTA Connect airpath — the silicone airpath pops out for cleaning, which is the nicest maintenance experience in the category.
  • Full Carta glass and accessory ecosystem, including all existing Carta 2 glass tops.

Where each one wins

Portability: Pivot, decisively. The Carta Sport ships with a travel case and a shoulder strap and Focus V markets it as portable, but it weighs about 454g and it is not going in your pocket. The Pivot is genuinely pocketable.

Vapour quality: Carta Sport, decisively. Bigger chamber, water filtration, more consistent heating.

Battery: Carta Sport, by a wide margin.

Ease of use for a beginner: Pivot. Fewer parts, nothing to seat correctly, nothing to crack.

Cleaning: Roughly even, for different reasons. The Pivot's chamber pops out; the Carta Sport's airpath pops out. Both beat a fixed-airpath rig.

Value per dollar: Pivot. It is remarkable for $169.99.

Long-term satisfaction: Carta Sport, if you dab regularly. The Pivot is a great device that people outgrow.

So which should you buy?

Buy the Pivot if you are new to concentrates and want a low-risk entry, you mainly dab away from home, you take small dabs, or you already own a rig and want a portable to go alongside it.

Buy the Carta Sport if you dab most days, you want water filtration, you take real dabs rather than micro-doses, or you want app control and a battery that lasts a week rather than a weekend.

Worth saying plainly: these are not really substitutes, and a lot of our customers end up owning both. A pocket device and a home rig cover different parts of the week, and the combined cost is still less than a flagship Peak Pro.

If your budget is firm at around $300–$325 and you only get one device, the honest answer depends on where you actually consume. Home most of the time? Carta Sport. Out and about? The Pivot plus a good glass mouthpiece will serve you better than a rig that stays on the shelf.

One upgrade worth knowing about

The Pivot takes aftermarket glass mouthpieces, and it changes the device more than you would think. We stock a deep range from Airi Labs, One Trick Pony and BTGB, including bubbler-style mouthpieces that add a small amount of water filtration to the Pivot.

It does not turn a Pivot into a Carta Sport, but it takes real harshness off the top end for well under the price difference between the two devices.

Buying in Edmonton and across Canada

Drip Glass is an authorized retailer for both Puffco and Focus V, with the full electric dab rig range in stock and shipping Canada-wide. If you are in Edmonton, come see both at 10714 Jasper Ave — the size difference between these two is the thing that decides it for most people, and it does not come across in photos.
